Plainly may it be foreseen, that the doctrine of certain absorptive diseases discussed in Chapter IV; will meet with criticism, even with scepticism. I, myself, longdoubted if such pathological sequence stood in the true relationship of cause and efiect but, even while thus hesitating, several per fectly characteristic cases, following each other in rapid suc cession, left no room for ambiguity.
